Ever been to the airport and seen officers walking around with dogs? They’re specially trained dogs that can detect explosives or drugs.
They are also soldiers that serve in our Armed Forces.
There’s really not much they can’t do.
It’s no wonder people love their pets the way they love their family members. Sometimes even more.

Before we get started, it is important to note that you should discuss any treatment, holistic or not with your vet. That being said, some vets are not very eager to agree or recommend CBD products because of either stigma, or local law.
Some states do not recommend or even forbid using cannabis as treatment for animals, including hemp which contains less than 0.3% THC at maximum.
Does CBD work for pets?
No one really knows yet. Just as in humans, pet CBD oil is just in the infancy stages of being studied. What scientists do know is that nearly all animals, like humans have an endocannabinoid system (ECS).
ECS is the system in our bodies that helps to maintain homeostasis. According to Wikipedia:
“The endocannabinoid system has been shown to have a homeostatic role by controlling several metabolic functions, such as energy storage and nutrient transport. It acts on peripheral tissues such as adipocytes, hepatocytes, the gastrointestinal tract, the skeletal muscles and the endocrine pancreas.”
Hemp extracted CBD is believed to work directly with the ECS in helping to achieve this balance.
Therefore, theoretically cannabidiol should work for your pets the same way it does for humans. It does not directly help with any ailments. It helps the ECS in accomplishing its main objectives.

Can I give my pet CBD?
There’s really no scientific data on the side effects of CBD for animals yet, but studies are being done. If the American Kennel Club is sponsoring a study of CBD hemp oil for pets, that means there are some potential benefits that are worth conducting the study.
We suggest you start low and start with the right product.
Always look for an organic product, or an oil that does not contain pesticides, fungicides or solvents.
Our recommendation is not to look for the cheapest option around. The higher the cost, chances are the higher the purity. We recommend CBD oils that are free of additives.
While there are incredibly tasty CBD products for pets flavors out there, we suggest going the natural route to ensure what you’re getting is simply CBD and not much else.
We also recommend you buy the pet CBD tincture as opposed to the treats. The bioavailability of the oil is greater, you can always adjust the dose, and the list of ingredients will be much shorter.
Meaning there will be no preservatives or chemicals.
CBD benefits for pets
Keep in mind there is no scientific data to back the claims of any CBD benefits for pets. However, some dog owners claim it helps with discomfort, and to control/minimize seizures.
Some owners suggest the pet CBD drops help with general angst, separation issues, and aggression.
Your best bet is to start low and see how your pet responds. You can always increase the dosage if needed.
Can CBD oil relieve angst in my pet?
Maybe.
Same as with humans, cannabidiol is a type of cannabinoid that works with the ECS on establishing homeostasis within the body. That includes balancing out the hormones responsible for angst and moods.
Same as in humans, not every pet will respond to CBD. Trial and error are the best options.
Make sure you are using quality CBD hemp oil for pets. We recommend unflavored or natural flavor cbd pet products, simply because they have less sugars and chemicals.
Give a small dose to your furry family member and see how they respond in about an hour. It may cause some drowsiness.
Pet CBD dosage
We get this question a lot. What is the ideal pet CBD dosage for my companion?
As with humans, this will depend on each individual animal. There are some suggested dosage amounts, but you will need to test and see how your pet responds.
Our suggested CBD serving for your animal will be 1 – 3mg per 10 pounds of weight for dogs and cats. Larger animals such as horses, you will need to do a bit more research.
This means if your dog weights 30 lbs, the starting dosage should be 3mg (at the low level), up to 9mg (at the high level).
This is only a recommendation and if you want to increase or decrease the dosage it is completely up to you.
Just make sure to monitor your pets’ response carefully. Especially in the beginning.
