Full spectrum CBD seems to get all the credit. It is by far the most popular spectrum of CBD products sold online. It does not work for everyone however, as it does contain up to 0.3% of THC. For some, that is a turn off.

CBD isolate is exactly as it sounds. The extract has been refined and processed to remove any other compound, except for CBD.

There are no additional cannabinoids, terpenes, or flavonoids. That also means, there’s no THC.

 

Why pick CBD isolate vs Full Spectrum CBD?

Just like brand preference, and the type of product, spectrum selection is a personal choice. Some choose full spectrum because of the theorized Entourage Effect.

Entourage effect is the belief that CBD, along with all of the additional cannabinoids, flavonoids and terpenes of the hemp plant work together to provide you with the most potent outcome.

The idea is that all compounds working together may have altered or even enhanced medicinal effects.

As with any potential benefit of CBD, more studies need to be done. FDA only approved one use of cannabidiol as medicine. It is used to help treat certain types of seizures with a cannabidiol drug named Epidiolex.

If there’s this big belief that entourage theory is valid, why would there be a need for CBD isolate?

This is for a couple reasons.

Full spectrum CBD contains THC and there is a subset of the population that suffers from THC induced panic.

This is key, as many people consume CBD to potentially help them overcome their worries.

Full spectrum cannabidiol extract might actually increase their angst.

There is also the stigma of THC.

Some think it’s used as a drug by potheads to simply get high.

The amount of THC legally permitted in mainstream CBD is so miniscule it will not get you high. There should be zero mind altering effects after consumption.

Finally, there is a chance for a failed drug test. While the tiny amount of THC is nowhere near enough to get a person high, over prolonged use it can build up in your system leading to a failed drug test.

As you can see, there are valid reasons for some to stay away from full spectrum CBD.

These potential benefits have been associated with CBD only. The potential enhanced benefits of using Full Spectrum or Broad Spectrum CBD are not enough to convince some to introduce other cannabinoids yet.

Therefore, CBD isolate is still extremely popular in the CBD marketplace.
