How long does CBD stay in your system?

CBD is quickly gaining in popularity across all age groups in the United States. Rightfully so, as users claim it is a natural way to help deal with angst, despair, insomnia, discomfort and even inflammation.

Everyone from athletes to grandma’s are jumping on the CBD bandwagon. It’s important to point out that currently there are no FDA approved treatments that utilize CBD. Except for one.

Epidiolex, which was officially approved in 2018 by the FDA, is the only drug on the market that is comprised of an active ingredient that is cannabidiol. It is used in treatments of three rare and severe types of epilepsy, Lennox-Gastaut syndrome, Dravet syndrome, or tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC).

Very impressive.

The fact that CBD has not been approved by the FDA for additional use, is not necessarily a bad thing. Since it’s very easy to buy CBD online now, and the 2018 Farm Bill makes hemp extracts and products legal at a federal level across 50 states, this still gives users and cannabidiol enthusiasts fairly affordable access.

No big pharma to patent and reap the profits just yet.

As with anything, you need to be careful and make sure you do your research. Especially since everyone will respond differently. Some CBD can contain THC. Full spectrum hemp extract by definition can contain up to 0.3% THC.

That small amount of THC will not get you high but can build up overtime and cause you to fail a drug test. Luckily, there are other options, such as Broad Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate that have 0.0% THC.

It’s also important that when you purchase CBD online, you order it from a reputable source and a quality brand. Make sure the CBD brand offers third party lab results so that you always know what you pay for.

The good news is that the human body seems to respond fairly well to CBD, with only a few side effects. According to the National Institutes of Health:

“CBD is well tolerated in humans with doses up to 600 mg not resulting in psychotic symptoms. In the few small placebo-controlled studies performed, no significant CNS effects were noted. Oral CBD undergoes extensive first-pass metabolism via CYP3A4, with a bioavailability of 6%. Following single doses in humans, the half-life of CBD when taken orally is about 1 to 2 days.”

Let’s get started.

How long does CBD oil stay in your system?

Did you ever wonder, does CBD stay in your system? Or maybe how long does hemp stay in your system? That depends. When taken orally following single doses, the half-life of CBD is about 1 to 2 days. That’s after a single dose.

What if you’ve taken it for a couple of months? How long does CBD last? Cannabidiol itself will be in your system for up to seven days.

Here’s the tricky part. If you’re asking this question, because you have a drug test coming up and you want to make sure you pass it, we have some good news.

CBD does not show up on a drug test.

THC does.

If you’ve taken full spectrum oil and wonder how long does CBD stay in your urine, it’s not CBD you need to worry about, but THC. Even in small doses of 0.3% or below, THC can build up in your system and cause you to fail a drug test.

How long does it take for CBD to take effect?

Depends on your consumption method. For a very detailed review check out our How Long Does CBD Take to Work blog.

How long to feel the effects of hemp oil? In summary of the blog, if you vape it, you can start feeling the effects within minutes.

If you ingest it orally, it typically takes about 1 to 2 hours.

If you apply it externally, such as with this CBDol, about 45 minutes to an hour.

Keep in mind, this is the average amount of time, but as we all respond differently, your times may vary.

That’s why it’s very important to try it for yourself.

When to take CBD?

The times and the dosage will be completely up to you. With time, patience and some knowledge, you’ll be able to set your own schedule for your CBD wellness practice.

When it comes to hemp extract oil, most quality brands recommend you take twice daily. Once in the morning, and the second dose typically 12 hrs later.

Coffee and Reading

Consistency is the key here. So if you take your first dose at 8 am, try your best to follow it up with a second dose at 8 pm. Continue to do so at same times every day.

This will be the best way to get the maximum benefit from your CBD practice.

How long does it take for CBD to work?

Each individual will respond to cannabidiol differently. While most of us will feel some effects within a couple hours, it might take a bit longer to get the maximum benefit.

That’s because CBD along with cannabinoids and terpenes needs time to build up in your system. That’s assuming you are taking the appropriate spectrum and dosage.

We have some clients that did not get a true benefit of CBD, until after a month and switching up the dosage and changing the brand.

How long do the effects of CBD last?

Peak effects will last anywhere from 5 to 8 hours. Keep in mind however, that CBD will be in your system for up to 7 days, so it is constantly working on helping your body achieve homeostasis.

Fairly simple right?
