Can you take too much CBD?

A rapid increase in CBD consumption over the last couple of years has led to a large number of new users. We generally think this is a great thing. In some people cannabidiol has been found to help with a plethora of benefits such as reduction in angst, lower level of despair, longer deeper slumber, ability to fall asleep faster and assistance in dealing with inflammation and discomfort management to name but a few.

The downside to the increase in CBD use is that there are many new users who don’t take the time to educate themselves. They start without doing research on the brands, the dosage, the spectrum and even benefits.

When they don’t see immediate benefits, they quit on CBD altogether.

Recently a new type of hemp extract oil has been gaining in popularity. It is CBG. You can read more about it here.

With all that being said, we get a decent amount of questions from new users on how to use CBD, and the best way to incorporate CBD into their daily lives.

We typically turn those questions into blog posts, as if one person has a question, chances are there are many more individuals with the same question.

    Crown asking questions

On this edition of Our CBD Blog, we will discuss a very important question. Can you take too much CBD?

This is important, especially for the new users who are wondering if they can overdose on CBD.

    We will discuss:

    1. Can you take too much CBD oil?

    2. How much hemp oil is recommended?

    3. How much CBD oil to take?

    4. Best way to consume CBD oil?

This is an informative blog only, and always consult your doctor if you have any concerns.

Use this only as a guide to your CBD wellness practice. It’s always best to monitor your response, as regardless of what the studies say, your body will have its own reaction.

    So, let’s get started.

First, it’s important to point out we are only discussing hemp derived CBD. The reason this is important is that many of the side effects people might associate with CBD are actually THC induced side effects.

Hemp derived CBD only contains 0.3%. Even so, there’s an extremely small risk for any sort of overdose of THC, and there has never been a death that was attributed to THC on record.

That means that with CBD, the chances are even smaller as it is non psychoactive, and according to the World Health Organization non-toxic.

Can you take too much CBD oil?

New users are always asking can you overdose on CBD oil? The short answer is No. According to this article from cancer.gov:

Because cannabinoid receptors, unlike opioid receptors, are not located in the brainstem areas controlling respiration, lethal overdoses from Cannabis and cannabinoids do not occur. However, cannabinoid receptors are present in other tissues throughout the body, not just in the central nervous system, and adverse effects include the following:

    • Tachycardia.
    • Hypotension.
    • Conjunctival injection.
    • Bronchodilation.
    • Muscle relaxation.
    • Decreased gastrointestinal motility.

It’s also important to note that in a 2011 review confirmed that CBD usage, even in high amounts such as 1,500mg a day is pretty well tolerated by the human body.

To be perfectly clear, 1,500mg a day is an extremely large dosage, as majority of daily users keep their dosage between 30 to 80mg a day.

How much hemp oil is recommended?

Most CBD brands for sale online will put a dosage recommendation on the label. That doesn’t say much as the dosage will actually vary depending on the strength of the CBD oil you purchase.

For instance, if you buy this CBDistillery Full Spectrum CBD Tincture Oil 1,000mg, and take a quarter of the dropper twice a day (recommended starting dosage), you will get a smaller amount of CBD than if you were to purchase this CBDistillery Full Spectrum CBD Tincture Oil 5,000mg, even though the manufacturers recommended dosage is the same. A quarter dropper, twice daily.

So, it’s best to start low and work your way up, until the desired effect is reached.

How much CBD oil to take?

This is a very personal question and is based on the way your body will respond to CBD. If you’re a new user, our recommendation is to pick the right spectrum and start low.

For more information on the differences in CBD spectrums, check out our blog here.

Our suggestion would be to start with either one of these products, that you can easily buy CBD online:

For Full Spectrum – CBDistillery Full Spectrum 1000mg Tincture

For Broad Spectrum – Relive Everyday RELIVE Hemp Extract CBD Tincture Level 2 1200mg

For CBD Isolate – CBDistillery THC-Free Pure CBD Oil Tincture 1000mg

    Oil Bottle Dropper

Use the manufacturers recommended dosage on the box and see how you feel.

After about 5 days you can increase or decrease the dosage if you don’t get the desired effect. You can always go up in the CBD strength, as each of these products does offer higher levels of CBD.

Best way to consume CBD oil?

When looking for the best way to take CBD oil, the decision is very personal as well.

When consuming CBD oil, our recommendation will be sublingual, as you will get the highest and fastest absorption rate.

Put the oil drops under your tongue for 30 to 60 seconds before swallowing.

There is a large number of ways to consume CBD, besides sublingual. Drop a dosage into your morning coffee. For lunch add some CBD oil into your salad dressing. Or bake some CBD infused cookies.
