Does CBD get you high?

Does CBD get you high?

No. We could end the blog post there, because the simple fact is you will not get high while using hemp derived CBD. However, the reason we decided to write more extensively about this topic is that the question is being asked, more and more.

Especially since CBD is gaining in popularity across all age groups.

There are still some who are unwilling to give cannabidiol a try mostly because of the bad stigma some associated with it. Some still think of it as a drug or weed. Some still think it’s illegal, or shady.

It is anything but that.

There’s also the misunderstanding of what CBD actually is, and where it comes from.

That’s why at The CBD Haven, we decided we’ll bring this blog back to basics, talk about what CBD is, where it comes from, and explain why cannabidiol does not get you high.

This way, if you decide to order CBD online, you’ll know exactly what you’re getting and why.

  1. What is CBD?

  2. Does CBD oil get you high?

  3. Difference between CBD and THC

  4. Does CBD make you tired?

  5. What does CBD feel like?

We thought covering all of these questions will give you a nice head start in learning more and helping to break the stigma.

What is CBD?

We can’t really answer the question does CBD get you high, without first talking about exactly what CBD is.

CBD, short for cannabidiol, is one of over 100 cannabinoids that is found in the hemp plant. It’s really important to note that CBD that is readily available in stores and online, does come from the hemp plant and not the marijuana plant.

Both the hemp and marijuana plants are varieties of the cannabis plant, with one major difference. The THC content. Thanks to the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp has been removed from the list of Schedule I substances in the Controlled Substances Act (CSA).

It also defined hemp as having no more than 0.3% of THC on a dry weight basis.

Hemp derived CBD is touted to have many medicinal benefits. They include helping with the following most common ailments:

  • Angst and worry
  • Despair
  • Inflammation
  • Slumber Quality
  • Insomnia
  • Discomfort

There are more benefits that are still being discovered.

We need to point out that while the 2018 Farm Bill legalized hemp and CBD on a federal level, it is still not a FDA controlled substance, meaning not enough studies have been done.

To this point, FDA has only approved one medical drug whose main active ingredient is cannabidiol.

Epidiolex, a seizure drug produced by Greenwhich Biosciences, has been approved for treatment in three types of rare seizures.

While this is positive news, it does mean that all other claims and benefits are coming directly from the CBD practitioners and not from the scientific community, yet.

To be fair there are some studies that are seeing a positive correlation between CBD and the benefits listed above.

However, that’s not enough, and more work needs to be done, before cannabidiol can officially be sold and studied as a cure to anything.

Does CBD oil get you high?

Can CBD get you high?

Nope.

Next question.

OK, maybe it’s not as simple as that. Does CBD get you high is a multi-layered question and can be understood differently by each person that hears it.

Does CBD get you high? No, as a substance CBD is non-psychoactive.

CBD 3D Model

Does CBD oil get you high? Depends. If the oil you consume is hemp derived, it will not. Hemp derived cannabidiol extract, does not have enough THC to get you high. Even full spectrum CBD contains a maximum of 0.3% THC.

That is nowhere near enough to feel any psychoactive effects.

There is marijuana extracted CBD oil. That is typically illegal (in most states) and/or requires a medical marijuana card before you can purchase from a medical marijuana dispensary. The marijuana extracted oil can have a much higher THC content than CBD content.

It is THC that gets you high.

Difference between CBD and THC

There are a few differences between CBD and THC, but for purpose of our discussion here we will concentrate on the main one. Both compounds come from the cannabis plant, and both are thought to have significant medical benefits.

Unlike CBD however, THC is psychoactive and is responsible for the “high” feeling after marijuana use.

CBD on the other hand is non-psychoactive, and pure CBD will not get you high.

Does CBD make you tired?

Every individual responds to CBD oil differently.

For some, CBD helps to relive stress and despair making them feel fully alert and clear headed. Some people respond differently and it will reduce their angst, but also make them feel sleepy.

This is why when you buy CBD online at The CBD Haven, we highly recommend starting with low dosage.

Start small and see how your body responds to hemp extracted cannabidiol oil. Take consistently and keep some notes. See how you feel. After about 5 to 7 days either increase or decrease dosage until you achieve the desired effect.
